STEM Academy
Northwest Independent School District, Fort Worth, TX
From 2009 through 2011, Thom worked with a team of teachers and administrators who opened the highly-successful Northwest ISD STEM Academy in fall, 2009. Thom is continuing to assist the Academy in all aspects of building a collaborative, high performance program that incorporates project based learning, professional learning community principles, and an effective 21st century skills curriculum. Throughout 2012, he will work with NISD to provide project based learning workshops and coaching to all the District's elementary, middle schools, and high schools.

Gustine High School
Gustine, CA
Gustine High School, in California’s Central Valley, is embarked on three-year initiative to retrain all staff in PBL and establish a 21st-century skills environment. Througout the 2011-12 school year, Thom will train staff, help develop project ideas, and support teachers in project development and exhibitions. In 2012, he will also train teachers from the District's four elementary and one middle school.

Milan High School
Milan, MI
Milan High School, south of Ann Arbor, MI, is redesigning its senior year around PBL and creating the Milan High Schol Center of Innovative Studies, a new technology-rich learning center for seniors. Over the next twelve months, Thom will train staff and administrators in PBL, help design assessments, and create a PBL portfolio for graduating seniors.

Elementary PBL
PBL in the elementary grades is increasingly popular. In 2011 – 2012, Thom is assisting four charter elementary and middle schools in California, Massachusetts, and Florida in creating a PBL culture, grade level project planning, and PBL elementary assessments.

International PBL
Over the past five years, Thom has conducted PBL and school redesign workshops in Canada, the U.K., Malaysia, and the Middle East. Under a provincial grant to revitalize central Alberta, Olds High School planned and built a Community Learning Center. Over a three year period, Thom helped the Olds High School team shape a PBL environment that takes full advantage of projects that involve the community and help students learn the skills and habits of mind to help them succeed in their home province. In New Brunswick, Canada, Thom delivered a series of workshops that helped establish the provincial 21st Century Skills Initiative. In the Kingdom of Jordan, Thom trained 30 teachers in PBL and 21st century skills instruction. In 2007 - 2008, Thom assisted North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury, U.K., and Ninestiles Technology College in Birmingham, U.K., in PBL. He will deliver the keynote address at the International Forum on Self-Directed Learning in April, 2013, at North-West University, South Africa. He is also part of a team at Curriki deivering online educational resources for PBL to teachers in the U.S. and abroad.
National Academy Foundation Career Academies
Dallas Independent School District, Dallas, TX
Over the past two years, Thom trained teams of high school teachers from twelve Career Academies sponsored by the Dallas Independent School District and the National Academy Foundation. These three day workshops were deigned to teach project based learning methodology, team building, school redesign, and collaborative culture methods. In 2012, Thom will offer addtional workshops for the High School Redesign Initiative in Dallas ISD.
